Jack and I survived the first week! Hurray! Seriously I feel like it’s an accomplishment – this momma thing is hard work! I’m not complaining though because our baby Jack is healthy, happy, and eating good! A couple of my realizations this week…
- Birth plans are tentative (I will share my birth story soon)
- Jack runs the show now!
- A simple run to Target is not so simple
- My body is unrecognizable to me and healing takes patience
- Breastfeeding hurts and it’s not because his latch is wrong
- Routines and schedules are not an exact science
- Baby smells are one of the best things in life
- Baby cheeks are a close second
- God is good
I could write so many more but those are the ones on the top of my head at the moment – just a glimpse into my personal thoughts as D and I adjust to life as parents. What a wonderful, terrifying, exciting, thrilling, and overwhelming time! Enjoy the photos 🙂

He is perfect. One of the cutest babies I’ve ever seen!
Oh Kelly, he’s perfect! I get to meet my little boy in six short weeks and looking through these photos has me SO excited for that amazing day. God is good!!!
So sweet. Love your blog. I totally relate the the body image thing. I just had my 3rd baby but the first time I saw myself in a mirror after my 1st child…I some what resembled a gingerbread man well…gingerbread girl shape. ! It was unbelieveable…just swollen no defined waist and well…not me. Anyway..it gets better. The swelling was from IV fluid thankfully..since I didn’t even swell when pregnant this was a shock to me. So hang in there. Drink lots of water…start walking as soon as you feel able and strong. It helps get things moving back in to place. 🙂 It takes awhile to get back to the old you but it can happen. Your baby is precious. Where did you get that sweet hat?

He is honestly one of the cutest newborns ever! Your list of items that you’ve learned so far are so memorable to me. I had many of the same feelings, specifically the target runs, the body image and breastfeeding!I am taking a wild guess from the scrubs that D is wearing, but did you have a c-section? If so, welcome to the club. Aliyah’s c-section was an emergency one and it sure made having her seem even more of a miracle of God. Take care and congrats on such a beautiful baby. You and D, I’m sure are already amazing parents.

Kelly, he’s absolutely precious! So glad everything went well. Give yourself plenty of grace! I wish I hadn’t been so unbelievable stressed about getting my son on a perfect routine at first and just enjoyed those first few weeks. Just keep up the good work, go easy on yourself, and Jack will be perfect. And I promise breastfeeding gets easier! You’re doing great!
