1) New NARS lipstick This was one of my purchases in New York. I wanted a fun everyday color and this one called my name. It’s called Schiap and it’s a pretty bright pink. Now I would like to buy every shade of pink!
2) VSCO CAM This is one of my favorite iPhone apps. So many options for editing your photos and the filters make them look like film. My fave. I have probably spent way too much time editing just one photo with this app. Oh and they also have presets and actions for sale on their website! Someday :).
3) Real Marriage Series A friend forwarded me this marriage series taught by pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church. You can watch it online here. It’s so awesome if you are looking for encouragement in your marriage or just want to improve your marriage. I was so convicted listening to The Respectful Wife sermon. Wow I could listen to it a hundred times and still learn from it! I have listened to all the sermons in the series but now D and I are going to listen to them together. Never can work on your marriage too much!
Oh, The first two make me so happy and the last one so sad… Do you know much about Mark Driscoll? You are such an awesome, beautiful person and I really enjoy reading your blog. I don’t usually comment, but I feel like I should and let you know that there are a lot of warnings that go along with this church and his teaching. Even just doing a little google search (this is a good response I think http://rachelheldevans.com/mark-driscoll-real-marriage/) can go a long way. Other than that, LOVE the lipstick!
I just listened to this series. Definitely convicting and truth revealing. You almost have to listen to it several times to let it sink in!
Hi Abigail – thanks for your comment and link. I am aware of the criticisms of Mark Driscoll and read through the response you sent by Rachel. I believe Mark discusses his sin with his wife in this series to open up a dialogue in which other couples can also talk honestly to each other. He points to Jesus as the perfect example – not himself. Mark and his wife talk a lot about repentance of our hearts and how being less selfish can transform your marriage. That’s what I got out of it. Mark lover or not – I liked this series :).
Kelly, I usually don’t speak up in this kind of way (being I don’t know you, but I wish I could after following your blog for so long), but I agree with Abigail. I’ve actually attended Mars Hill several times and have several friends who are members of Mark’s church as I’m originally from Seattle and moved away recently. And when I say “Mark’s church”, it’s Mark’s church. Be very critical of Mark’s preaching and be sure that he is sticking to the gospel and referencing the gospel and not just preaching his own story. I’m sure it’s a good series and has value to it; just be cautious and careful to fall in love with the Word and not Mark in his preachings. I’ve seen it happen the wrong way too many times with very close friends.
Love the lipstick and I always love your photos:)

Totally love that app. Understandably who wants to pay $120 for actions. Try http://shop.kmillerphotographs.com/blog/ I would say your style might fit summer breeze the best and its only $25.00. I’ve purchased these and their pretty fun to work with.
Hi Lauren – thank you for your insight. A good reminder to double check any teaching with God’s word – the final authority!
Amanda! That’s so funny you mentioned K Miller’s actions – I actually bought them 2 weeks ago – the Summer Breeze ones!! Great minds think alike 🙂 I used the Float action on these photos: http://kellyhicksdesign.com/2012/07/weekend-snapshots/

Any tips to a non photographer on using VSCO? I’ve been playing around a bit but wondered if you had some suggestions that would make sense to someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing 😉 If you get a minute you can email me! Happy Sunday!
I realized soon after I posted (above) that my request was probably a little daunting. Didn’t mean to put you on the spot. I just keep playing around with it!
Love looking at all of your pics on here and instagram!! Keep ’em coming!
Olivia – sorry I never replied! I really don’t have any tips since I’m also a newbie to instagram! But one thing I did hear is that you should stick to one filter so you have a consistent look to your photos. So tempting to use all of them tho!
