CURRENTLY

Thinking: I wrote this on Twitter today but I really can’t believe it’s been 12 years since 9/11. As a college freshmen, I remember I came back to my dorm room after an 8:00 morning class, turned on the TV and saw a burning building. I didn’t really take it in and I started flipping through channels. Except that every channel was the same. When I realized the building was the World Trade Center and saw the 2nd plane hit, I couldn’t believe what was happening. The rest of the day the whole campus was talking about it. Every class I went to, we watched the coverage. I remember how scared everyone was. Remembering that day is such a sad reminder of what many Americans sacrifice for all our freedom.

Eating: I’ve been on a banana bread kick lately and took a loaf over to my neighbors the other day. I always use my Mom’s recipe and Jack LOVES it!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sour milk (add 2 teaspoons lemon juice to sour milk)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 bananas – mashed 2 cups flour

Directions: Preheat oven to 350. Grease pan with shortening and dust with flour. Blend sugar and shortening in bowl. Add eggs, sour milk, and stir. Add bananas, flour, and soda. Stir until blended. Bake for 1 hour.

Watching: I am a sucker for any show with dancing. I recently discovered Breaking Pointe on Hulu. It’s a reality show about a ballet company in Salt Lake City. The dedication and talent of those dancers is amazing!

Reading: My Mom bought me Jesus Calling, a daily devotional for my birthday. I love the writings and verse references. It’s totally relatable and easy to keep up with.

Needing: To clean my house. Seems like there’s always better things to do ;). And it stays clean for a hot minute before the little bulldozer comes through again.

Learning: How to get rid of bottles! I was delaying this for the longest time because Jack refused to drink cow’s milk. So I started making 1/2 formula and 1/2 milk bottles until we slowly weaned him off of formula. Then he would ONLY drink milk if it was in a bottle. Every time I tried a sippy cup, he would look at it and hand it back to me. So bottles were  the only way I would get milk in him. But it is time so we went cold turkey this week. Jack has been asking for a “ba-ba” every morning so I bought a new sippy cup and told him it was his new “ba-ba”. So far so good! He has been drinking out of his new “ba-ba” for a couple days. Either way I would love to hear other Mom’s experience with this! Jack has been a little stinker!

Loving: My new bike! I got a trailer for Jack to ride in so he can go too. Every day before I get a chance to put him in his carseat he runs over and dives in it like he’s ready to go! It takes quite a lot to peel him away.
