DIY RUFFLE WREATH

April 18, 2011 · 49 comments

I wanted to share with you another project I helped my sister with for her baby’s room! My mom gave her a reclaimed window that she hung up but it was looking a little boring so we thought it needed some sprucing up. We’ve seen lots of ruffle wreaths but decided to make up our own version. It was really only after experimenting that we came up with this. Both of us loved the results and how simple it was to do!

Here’s what you will need if you want to try it…

1) 1 yard of fabric
2) Scissors
3) Hot glue gun
4) Foam wreath
5) Long Pins

We used another strip of fabric, 2 pins, and some tacks to hang it up. It’s actually somewhat reminiscent of the tissue poms, I shared last week! I have one more project I want to share with you before I share the whole nursery! Look for that later this week!!

This is so cool! I love the way you displayed the step-by-step process. And then I freaked out when I read NURSERY. Did I miss an announcement somewhere??!!

This is beautiful. What type of fabric is it? It seems to be like an organza. Beautifully done.

Thank you! I’m not too good at identifying fabric…haha. All I know is it had some drape to it and I found it in the clearance section! ;)

Such sweetness. The color, the fluff, perfect.

I am DYING over this!!! So cute and frilly! I am literally running to the store to get a ring and make one for my little girls room. Thank you for the perky inspiration that I needed.

First off, the window is beautiful, great work! Care to share how you did that? Next, the wreath is soo easy, even I might do that. It looks more time-consuming & beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

what size are the little pieces you are folding over?

Amber Rae January 9, 2012 at 6:58 pm

I LOVE this wreath and am about to sit down and make this, but Im a little confused on the length of the strips you cut. Did you cut the long length or the short length? Are your strips all a yard long? I’m assuming they are not a yard long?

kellyhicks January 9, 2012 at 8:14 pm

Hi Amber – glad you are going to try this! I cut the fabric the width of it so yes I am assuming that the strips were around a yard long :) Hope that helps!

Any idea how this might turn out if different colors were alternated? I love the pink, but am looking for a sage green and white idea to add to my office door.

Gretchen January 13, 2012 at 9:36 am

what size is that foam wreath?

Colleen January 18, 2012 at 12:15 pm

Wondering what size are the pieces you used for the ruffles?

Donna January 29, 2012 at 6:35 pm

I love the simple, sweetness of this wreath! Thanks so much for sharing this great tutorial!

Ashley January 31, 2012 at 4:51 pm

I am also wanting to know the length of the ribbon to make the ruffled. Also, what is the length to cover the wreath? Thanks! I can’t wait to start.

Very cute wreath!
Is the baby’s name Viola, like the instrument?

Shannon Arnold February 22, 2012 at 10:22 pm

Beautiful. I think I may try to make one with some girlfriends. Any estimate of time frame for finishing one?

Brandi February 27, 2012 at 12:23 pm

Love this! Can’t wait to get some free time to try this beauty out!

Samantha March 8, 2012 at 4:18 pm

I am also wondering what size foam wreath you used. It looks like it probably was a 12 inch. Or was a 14 in? I just don’t want to run out of fabric.

Nancy B March 11, 2012 at 12:44 pm

Can’t wait for your next project. Love your work

kellyhicks March 11, 2012 at 4:07 pm

Gretchen & Samantha: I think the size of the wreath was 12 inches. Hope that helps!

Julie April 6, 2012 at 7:43 am

Hi, I’m still a little confused about the length of the strips for the ruffles. Did you use a yard length strip? That just seemed long but maybe it’s not once you start making the ruffle.
